The Indian River Colony Club Foundation recently donated $5,000 to Honor Flight Brevard, a national organization with the purpose of honoring veterans by providing them a tour of their memorials in Washington D.C. The donation will send 12 veterans on a day trip to Washington D.C. A total of 55 people, including 27 veterans, medical personnel, a videographer, and members of the Honor Flight Brevard board, will make the round trip from Orlando to Washington D.C. on Oct. 30. The group will lay a wreath at the Arlington National Cemetary, where they will have front row seats for the changing of the guard, and will also present a flag at the World War II Memorial. "We give the veterans a goody bag, a T-shirt, a book on World War II," said Cindy Morgan, who is a board member of Honor Flight Brevard. "We make a very big deal of this," Morgan added. "We have volunteers lining the streets, a parade with police cars. At the airport, fire trucks form an arch of water for when the plane taxis out as a send-off." The IRCC residents that will go on the Oct. 30 excursion are World War II veterans Victor Hernandez, Robert Parker, James Alexander and John Parks. "We would love people to come out and cheer the vets on when they leave and return," said Paul Barthel, who is also a board member of Honor Flight Brevard. The group plans to disembark at 5 a.m. from the Knights of Columbus in Rockledge at 3435 Fiske Blvd. and return at 11:30 p.m. "Getting there at 10:45 p.m. to welcome the vets home would be optimal," Barthel added. Residents, Cindy Alm and Kathy Martin went to see Adam Lambert, American singer, songwriter, and actor perfom at his Glam tour at the Adam Lambert is one of the most, if not the most, talented singer “American Idol” has seen in its nine seasons. The concert sold out in minutes but Cindy went online and got lucky! They decided to make a galam-tastic night of it and dress the part. To top it off, they were chauffeured in a black Lincoln Towncar and enjoyed a glass of Chardonnay. After the concert, the chauffer returned with two boas and an autograph for the ladies. What a great night! |
